The Adjustment: Opening the Angle To counteract this downward dive, you must Open the Racket Face. The Action: Tilt the top edge of your racket away from you and the bottom edge toward the table. The Goal: You are creating an upward slope. By angling the racket face upward, you provide a "ramp" for the ball to climb, canceling out the backspin's desire to dive. The Execution: The Return Push To return a backspin ball without accidentally launching it too high, follow these steps: 1. In table tennis, the serve is the only moment in the game where you have total control over the ball. By combining the types of spin we have explored in previous chapters, you transform the serve from a mere way to start the point into a strategic weapon.
